Invisalign moves teeth using a series of clear, removable trays, each one shaped slightly differently from the last. You wear a tray for a set stretch of time, then swap it for the next in the series, and the small differences between trays add up to bigger changes in how your teeth line up. Because the trays come out for meals and brushing, the treatment fits around daily life instead of rearranging it — which is a large part of why so many of our patients in Easley and Greenville ask about it first.
Invisalign works well for a wide range of concerns we see every week: crowding where teeth overlap, spacing and gaps, teeth that have shifted over the years, and bite relationships that need adjusting. We treat both children and adults, so the conversation looks different depending on who's in the chair. An adult who had braces as a teenager and has watched their front teeth drift back together has a different starting point than a high schooler finishing up growth, and the treatment plan reflects that.
Not every case is best served by aligners, and we'll tell you honestly if that's true for yours. Some bites respond better to traditional metal braces or ceramic braces, and some younger patients need an appliance — an expander, a Herbst, or a Carriere Motion Appliance — before or alongside tooth movement. Our board-certified orthodontist reviews your teeth, bite, and goals and lays out the realistic options, including what each one asks of you in time and daily effort. The initial consultation is free, so getting that answer costs you nothing but an hour.
The single biggest factor in Invisalign results is wear time. The trays only move teeth while they're in your mouth, so they need to stay in for the great majority of the day and night, coming out for meals, drinks other than water, and brushing. Patients who treat the trays as optional tend to stall, and we'd rather set that expectation clearly up front than have you frustrated three months in.
A few other practical things are worth knowing before you start. New trays often feel tight or snug for the first day or two — that pressure is the treatment working. Some cases call for small tooth-colored attachments bonded to certain teeth to give the aligners something to grip, which affects how "invisible" the trays look up close. You'll also need to keep the trays clean and keep a case with you, because trays wrapped in a napkin at a restaurant have a way of ending up in the trash. We go over all of this in detail at your appointments, not just once at the start.
Finishing Treatment and Protecting the Result
Teeth don't automatically stay where you put them. Once your aligner series is complete, retainers hold the corrected position while the surrounding bone and tissue settle. Wearing your retainer as directed is the difference between a result that lasts and one that slowly gives ground — and this is the same reason we provide retainers for patients who were treated somewhere else and need a replacement or a fresh start.
We also accept orthodontic transfer patients, so if you began Invisalign with another practice and moved to the Upstate, we can pick up where that treatment left off. Bring whatever records and trays you have and we'll evaluate where things stand. If you're active in sports during or after treatment, we make sports mouth guards as well, and we handle orthodontic emergencies when something breaks, loosens, or causes discomfort.
Paying for Invisalign
We file insurance claims as a specialist and accept all major PPO plans, which often include orthodontic benefits you may not realize you have. We're glad to review your coverage with you and explain what it does and doesn't apply to before you commit to anything.
For the balance beyond insurance — or for families paying entirely out of pocket — we offer flexible financing and payment plans designed to spread the cost into manageable monthly amounts. We welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we accept HSA and FSA funds, which is a straightforward way to use pre-tax dollars toward treatment.
