We offer two types of braces, and both work the same way mechanically. Metal braces use stainless steel brackets and wires. Ceramic braces use tooth-colored or clear brackets that blend in against natural enamel. They're the option most adults ask about, along with teens who want something less noticeable in photos or at work. Functionally, ceramic braces address the same kinds of cases as metal. The practical differences come down to appearance and care: ceramic brackets are less visible, and because the clear elastics that hold the wire can pick up color from coffee, tea, and deeply pigmented foods, we swap them at each visit. During your consultation we'll talk through which fits your case, your daily routine, and your budget. For patients who'd rather not wear brackets at all, we also offer clear aligners and Invisalign, and we'll tell you honestly whether your bite is a good candidate for those instead.
Who Braces Are For and What Treatment Involves
Good candidates include children whose permanent teeth are coming in crooked or crowded, teens ready for comprehensive treatment, and adults who never had orthodontic care or whose teeth have shifted over the years. Some younger patients need groundwork first — we use appliances such as expanders, the Herbst, and the Carriere Motion Appliance, along with space maintainers when a baby tooth is lost early and the space needs to be held open.
Here's what treatment generally looks like from start to finish:

- A treatment plan explaining the approach, expected timeline, and cost
- A bonding appointment where brackets are placed and the first wire is set
- Adjustment visits on a regular schedule to change wires and elastics and track progress
- Removal of the braces, followed by retainers to hold your new alignment
Soreness for a few days after placement and after adjustments is normal. Brushing and flossing take more time with braces, and we'll show you how to clean around brackets and wires. Sticky and hard foods should be avoided so brackets stay put. If a bracket loosens or a wire pokes, call us — we handle orthodontic emergencies and would rather see you promptly than have you wait it out.
Retainers, Aftercare, and Paying for Treatment
Retainers are not optional. Teeth have a tendency to drift after braces come off, and wearing your retainer as directed is what protects the result. We'll fit yours at removal and explain the wear schedule. If you play contact sports, ask us about a sports mouth guard to protect your teeth and appliances.
